Towton
Unfortunately the Towton event was cancelled due to flooding, it's a shame because lots of us said we were going so I had hoped we could have won this time and changed the course of history.
Skipton
The largest number of members attended for as long as I can remember. New members were broken in to our little ways. The filming of the event did get in the way a little bit, but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The biggest problem was the number of injuries, some of which were preventable (David keep your Gauntlet on), some of which were not like having a heart attack! As for the rest unfortunately those that live by the sword die by the sword, one bit at a time.
Brough
This was the frist time we had been to Brough. The first time we have had to do the publicity etc. We knew there would be a risk and we lost money. But we are not here to make money we are here to have a good time in a historical way. There was only a few of us. So all had to work hard, but I think David did most of it.
Despite the work, despite not making money it was a valuable weekend we learned lots and had fun. Those members of the public that came were happy with what we did. Some even came on both days.
Muncaster
Muncaster was great (apart from the wasps). The weather was great. Another new member, which we didn't break this time (he was broken already). We worked well together.
Thanks
Thanks to all the members who turned out at the events without you, I look really silly. A special thanks to the other Committee members who do most if not all the organising. A special thanks go to the catering team who prepare, cook and serve us our food in a small cloud of wood smoke. Just remember woodsmoke is used as a preservative. So you will stay young forever even though you smell like a kipper.
Looking Forward
I look forward to next year, but over the Winter we all need to work hard. We all need to help the new members get ready for the events as it can be a very daunting task making and gathering all those little items that get you to be that Medieval person. We all need to check our own kit and make it better. No matter how good you are or think you are you can always do better.
In the years to come we will be the Force In The North.
4. Financial Report 2012/13
4.1 David gave a full review of the group accounts and a copy has been added in the Appendix.
4.2 Potential new purchases discussed were:
Quintain and tabards for the knight school
Windbreak for around the fire
Box trailer for transporting and storing kit
Additional have-a-go bows and replacement strings
5. Election of Committee for 2013/14
5.1 The following members were elected:
Chair – Dan Nelson
Secretary – Aaron Robshaw
Treasurer – David Murray
Health & Safety Officer – Newton Bowmer
Other committee members – Marie Ammundsen, Matthew James, Sheila McDonald.
Website Co-ordinator – Wesley Perriman
6. Planned Activities for 2013/14
It was agreed to attend the Towton Battle commemoration and to hold living history events at Skipton Castle in May 2014 and Muncaster Castle in August 2014 as usual.
7. Any Other Business
1. Aaron talked about the idea of the group attending the 2015 Azincourt festival and several members said they could be interested. This would mean making early medieval kit and armour.
2. Sheila brought up the idea about the group becoming Limited. After the AGM Sheila looked into it and the information was discussed between the committee and decided it was not suitable for the group.
3. David Murray offered to host the next AGM at his house at Newbiggin.
4. Thanks should be given to Simon and Tom for all their hard work on the video.
